Workshop on Classification and Identification of Dual-Use Goods held on July 5, 2022 in Bishkek for ministries, agencies and the business community
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic in cooperation with the Center on Export Control (CEC) and with the support of the European Union and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) held a Workshop on Classification and Identification of Dual-Use Goods on July 5, 2022 for ministries, agencies and the business community.
The event was held at the Ministry as part of the Implementation Action Plan for United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 for 2022-2025, which provides advanced training for officials from ministries and agencies involved in the implementation of UNSCR 1540.
Welcoming remarks at the event were delivered by Ms. S. Ormonova, Head of the WTO Division of the Trade Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Dr. Hendrik Visser, ISTC Partner Project Manager and Ms. Jyldyz Sydygalieva, Director of the Center on Export Controls.
The Workshop presented a new Course on Classification and Identification of Dual-Use Goods, developed at the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn (KNU). During the Workshop, experts from Kazakhstan and Ukraine spoke and sharing international experience on the identification of dual-use goods and internal compliance program (ICP). Also, ministry officials informed about the importance of the export control system of the Kyrgyz Republic and the role of state agencies in this area.
At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Maria Espona, Project Manager of the EU funded Targeted Initiative CBRN Export Controls of Dual-Use Materials and Intangible Technologies in Central Asia, noted the importance of developing the Course on Commodity Classification and Identification at KNU and wished workshop participants continued success in strengthening the export control system.
